October 25, 2009, during the TV-program broadcast "Strana dolzhna znat" ("Country must know") the information, which defames the activity of our church, dignity, good name and honour of our Primate Patriarch Moses, was spread to the wide audience by the journalists of ICTV Television Company.
Surely, putting on the air of this television broadcast is an action, which contradicts any moral principles, on which activity of journalists must be built on. Unfortunately, ICTV channel once more confirmed justice of references on its address - ICTV channel is recognized as one of the leaders in distribution of the erroneous information. (according to the result of NGO "Telecritics").
On the eve of the broadcasting of the mentioned program, the representatives of our church, objecting to the broadcast of the untested information, offered to the workers of the TV channel to scrutinize the situation. However, governing body of channel showed that objectivity was not the priority in activity of the noted mass media. Pursuit of cheap sensation, which is supported by a large sum of money, resulted in gross violation of basic rights and freedoms, declared by the Constitution of Ukraine (articles 3, 4 and 5 of the Constitutions of Ukraine), violations of which fall under the article 64 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, which leads to the custodial penalty within 10 years.
There is the violation of legislative principles of our state on the activity of mass media, on the freedom of belief and moral norms, common to all mankind. Surely, that in this case we deal with the frank example of an action which is directed to kindling of religious enmity and insulting religious senses of the faithful that is prohibited by the articles 3, 4 and 5 of the Constitution of Ukraine.
The clergy and the faithful of UAOC-C picketed the office of ICTV, to inform the guidance of the channel and his workers of the opinion concerning an incident which arose up through the fault of the authors of slanderous information and to stop the distribution of it via television facilities. As guidance of the TV channel has refused any dialog, the press service of UAOC-C declares, that under such conditions, UAOC-C will be forced to fight for the rights by all the legal means.
In conclusion, we address to all honest workers of mass media. Freedom of speech needs not talking about, but also the constant protecting, if you want to live not in corrupted, but in legal, democratic and spiritual country. The future of Ukraine depends on your honest work.
